Hi All I wonder if any one would be so kind as to clarify which xover actually works with the model 19. Is it the 800 hz or the 1200hz. I am re-coning my 421's to 416 specs and would like to assemble a 19. Any advice is greatly apreciated.

    Cool

My original color brochure states a 1200Hz crossover and 811 horn.

I don't own a pair however so I can't verify what they really used. Usually the engineering sheets were very detailed and correct. forums

    I'd probably use 800Hz with the 811.

The Model Nineteen used the N1201-8A passive crossover. 1,200 Hz for sure.

The Model 19 did NOT use an N1201-8A crossover. The Model 19 crossover was one specifically designed for it.

Now to the problem with your Model 19's being "too bright," a couple of thoughts -

    1. Are you certain that all of the speakers are working up to specs? Your woofers may have been weakened over time, and are no longer able to "keep up" with the horns.

    2. The crossover components could have changed values as they have aged (very likely). Iconic Mfg. will soon have new, high-quality replacements for the originals that sound 10 times better than they ever did before, or we can rebuild your old ones with the new parts.

    3. There could be something wrong with your electronics. Try swapping them out and listening to the same program material (by the way - what type of music are you listening to?)

    4. Your ears may be prejudiced - by this I mean that you are so used to hearing speakers that HAVE no top end that when you actually HEAR what is REALLY THERE, your THINK that there is something wrong with the speakers, rather than what you have been perceiving as accurate sound reporduction (this happens a lot, too).

My model 19's are just a little too bright. All original parts in the speakers. I am using Rogue Mono Amps along with Rogue 99 preamp in series with a Dynaco Pat 4. Would another crossover help? I have the HF set at minimum and the HF set at the low end of Optimum already. Still too bright.

    Bloozman,
I would suspect the Dyna Pat-4 is causing the brightness you hear. I have heard these thru Altecs and they sound quite brittle and bright.

As to the two replies on the "bright" sounding model 19's. The Pat 4 has been modified. I have used this for years and don't think this is the problem although I will swap out to test. The crossover parts may well have changed values. I may be interested in replacement parts, although I will try some other things first. I know the system is bright by the extended ssss's at times, so I don't believe it is what I am used to, although I beleive there is truth in that.

As far as I can tell the Model 19 and N1201-8A crossovers are functionally the same. My pair has 1 of each and they both are built with the same components. The only difference seems to be the faceplate and that the 1201 has a black box surrounding the components and terminals on the back. Since these speakers came from a professional environment I assume that they both had to match.
